The chairman of Fidesz - Hungarian Civic Union stated that the solution to the current economic and political crisis in Hungary must be democratic and non-violent. Regarding the referendum, Mr Orbán made it clear that this was the only remaining solution to the current situation and the only appropriate tool within the framework of a constitutional democracy.

He added that the foundation of "Magyar Gárda" is the wrong answer to the current crisis. Mr Orbán recalled that József Szájer MEP, leader of the Hungarian delegation, also released a statement regarding the issue of the "Magyar Gárda". János Martonyi, former minister of foreign affairs of the Orbán government, underlined that Fidesz had no further intentions to comment on the issue and wished to focus on the real problems facing Hungary.

The Hungarian budget was also discussed and it was concluded that serious debates would probably take place in the Parliament since "fiscal conservatism remains unattained", said Mr Martonyi. Viktor Orbán called the diplomats' attention to the fact that Fidesz had made several proposals regarding the budget but the incumbent socialist-liberal coalition dismissed all of them. Mr Martonyi emphasized that some of the foreign representatives had not known of these efforts of Fidesz, therefore he deemed it important that more such discussions be held in the future between Mr Orbán and members of the diplomatic corpses.
