"Let me share a piece of information with you. As of today, Hungary holds the record in the history of European elections. So far, the United Kingdom did so where the Conservative Party received 51 percent of the votes in 1979. Tonight, a Hungarian party took their place: Fidesz", said Orbán at the beginning of his speech after the results of the European elections were unveiled on June 7th. "The results show that the Hungarians stood up to have their voices heard, to have their chance to say that they had enough. A never-seen-before majority said so. Families, both the young and old, sportsmen, artists and intellectuals all alike demonstrated an unprecedented unity with this 56 percent. They said they wanted a new direction for Hungary", declared the chairman of Fidesz.

"What is this victory for? What is the wish of so many Hungarian people worth? We need not be afraid to say that the citizens of Hungary spoke and said things cannot go on the same way. The Hungarians demand the socialists to no longer stand in the way of the country's wish to stand up again. The Hungarians demand the socialists to finally draw the consequences of what happened. Hungary demands the socialists to no longer stand in the way of the coming change", continued Orbán. Upon ending his short speech, the chairman of Fidesz said "we are going to change Hungary with the help of the strength of this victory".

On Monday, 8th June, Mr Tibor Navracsics, leader of the parliamentary group of Fidesz - Hungarian Civic Union said the party won an historic victory at the European elections. Mr Navracsics recalled that never before has a party won 57 percent of the votes with a 40 percent margin of difference between the first two contenders. "The socialists reached their negative record. Never before have they received such a low number of votes, including the first democratic elections after the collapse of the communist one-party state", said Mr Navracsics, referring to MSZP getting a mere 500 thousand votes. The leader of the opposition parliamentary group reminded socialists that their argument about voters punishing governments at the European polls throughout the continent was untrue. "Governing parties managed to win in Poland, Slovakia, Italy, France and Germany", even in times of crisis.

"The Hungarians sent a clear message to MSZP and SZDSZ: they have had enough of the public policies that led the country into this crisis. The people want a stronger Hungary and government that is capable of leading the way out. This can only be brought about by new elections", declared Mr Navracsics.

On Wednesday, after a two-day meeting of the national presidium of Fidesz, chairman Viktor Orbán presented a letter he sent to the socialists, demanding the governing party to immediately suspend all privatization and withdraw their proposal to introduce a property tax. At the press-conference in Budapest, chairman Viktor Orbán listed all the other demands of the opposition party, namely: to halt all using all foreign credit to bail out banks, to withdraw the draft proposal for a new civil code and to not carry out any of their plans to restructure the education system and Hungary's public administration. The letter also demands that the socialists immediately stop "parachuting" their defeated politicians to the top-level of state-owned companies and to halt the setting up of a joint-venture between Russia and Hungary to build the Southstream Pipeline.

"Our message is clear, our supporters are united, and we need not make any compromises or coalitions either to the left or to the right. Our supporters include more than half of the country", he declared.
