Democracy Is the Best Political Order

The event was held in the former East-West German border city of Teustingen, organized by the government of Thüringen. The chairman of Fidesz gave a lecture entitled "20 Years of Changes in Central Europe" in which he said he was proud that Hungary had once been an actor in Germany's reunification because "we share a history of more than a thousand years and we have a common destiny". "We have made numerous good and bad alliances earlier before but in 1989 we rallied for freedom and human dignity", said the chairman of Fidesz.

Orbán emphasized that the new order could not be built and the real transition to democracy could not succeed if we failed to appreciate freedom and if relativism appeared, diminishing the difference between liberty and tyranny. "This is why we have to build a democracy on those very values which held us together even during oppression: human solidarity, Christian faith and the respect for human dignity". Speaking about Central Eastern Europe Orbán said these countries were determined to build Europe's future on the shared values of liberty, the rule of law and virtue. "Our task, the task of liberated peoples, is to represent these values within the European framework: politics built on human solidarity, Christian faith and the respect for human dignity", he underlined.

In addition to his public lecture, the chairman of Fidesz held talks with Dieter Althaus, Christian Democratic Prime Minister of Thüringen. The two counterparts agreed that the financial crisis could not be managed with austerity measures neither in Thüringen nor in Hungary and conjuncture measures and the renewal of politics were needed instead.
