Lies and Concealed State Finance Data

István Balsai, Legal Director of the Presidential Cabinet of Fidesz submitted the charge to the head of the cabinet office of the Prosecutor General. By know it is a well known fact that the real economic situation of Hungary was not made public in 2006 because of the coming general election in spring of the same year. The difference between the actual and the published numbers was about HUF 1000 billion. The Central Statistical Office was ordered by a court decision to make the actual data public, as the Data Protection Act was clearly violated in 2006.

In an open letter Fidesz called upon Attila Mesterházy to withdraw Ferenc Gyurcsány and János Veres from the Socialist Party's election list. ‘The infamous Öszöd speech was an admission of political lies and a campaign of lies' - stated Tibor Navracsics, head of the parliamentary group of Fidesz. ‘The Socialists are talking about a new start and new faces, yet their candidates undermine the credibility of their Party. Gyurcsány and Veres have been emblematic figures of the last 8 years, but they are still in the front of the party's election list.

Deputy Fidesz spokesman András Cser - Palkovics announced on 31st January 2010 that Fidesz would like to have a hearing with Ferenc Gyurcsány and János Veres in front of the Parliament's Budget Committee as both of them deliberately lied about the exact economic situation of Hungary. The hearing would have been on state debt, budget deficit, the solidity of financial statements and the prognosis of the government borrowings. Besides Mr. Gyurcsány and Mr. Veres an invitation was also sent to the present minister of finance, Péter Oszkó, but none of them appeared at the hearing.
