The Hungarians Defeated Hopelessness
|
|
Today the citizens of Hungary have defeated hopelessness. They proved that Hungary is unified, has strength, is able to achieve great things, wants to work and wants to have law an order, said Viktor Orbán after winning overwhelmingly the first round of the 2010 general elections. |

The Fidesz chairman first expressed his thanks to everybody who worked hard and prayed for this historic result, stressing that this is a victory for Hungary, not for Fidesz. ‘I know I am facing the greatest challenge of my life, though I also know that the job can be done. But I need every single Hungarian to help me', said Viktor Orbán.
At an international press conference the next day the Fidesz chairman said that the first round of the elections was about which direction Hungary should go, the second will be about how united Hungary will be. The elections demonstrated that Hungarian democracy is stable and defended itself.
Viktor Orbán said that one of the first steps of the new government will be to reduce taxes, to launch a "widespread attack" against bureaucracy and corruption, and to reform the state management. The focus of the new economic policy will be to kick-start economic growth, not austerity measures. Hungary's competitiveness needs to be greatly improved, but at the same time social security also needs to be maintained, he added.
Alliances should be formed with our international partners and within Hungary with capital owners, investors, businessmen, employers and employees, and with economic chambers. Without them Hungary cannot move forward from the present situation, Viktor Orbán said.
