Navracsics to Become Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice and Public Administration
2010. április 30., 15:28
Prime Minister-elect Viktor Orbán named senior members of his government on Thursday, appointing former Finance Minister Mihály Varga his chief of staff and parliamentary group leader Tibor Navracsics Deputy Prime Minister.

Navracsics as deputy PM, will be the Minister of Justice and Public Administration, whose portfolio will include to reform Hungary's entire public administration system, civil service and the state's functions, including public services. As Deputy Prime Minister of Hungary, Navracsics will be given the right to coordinate the future government members' work, overseeing the other ministers' tasks. In order to be able to carry out this job, one of the first duties of the new majority in parliament will be to present a bill amending the constitution, creating the permanent job of a deputy PM.

Navracsics said his job would be to "separate public administration from
politics, reintroducing high quality professional service to state
administration". "The creation of an effective, cheap and disciplined state
is our main job. For Hungary to be competitive again, we need a simpler and more rational institutional framework", Navracsics added. This way, he said, the trust in public administration and the state can be strengthened again. "The state must have, as its top priority, to serve the public interest and help citizens live a fuller life, yet in the past
years we've seen the exact opposite of this", Navracsics said.
