On 10 September, Mr Viktor Orbán, chairman of Fidesz - Hungarian Civic Union had talks with MEP Graham Watson, president of the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe. They agreed that the basic values of the European Union - democracy, the rule of law, free market economy and solidarity - should be respected at all times, regardless of political affiliation, and that every measure should be taken so that basic civil rights be observed in all member states. These fundamentals should also be reaffirmed whenever any EU-member engages in a dialogue with a third country. Both Mr Orbán and Mr Watson emphasized the importance of constructing a strong Europe whose diversity guaranteed all human rights for individuals and communities alike, and which could face up to the global challenges of present times.
